# press

The `press` step.

Presses a key, named as Playwright names keys (`Enter`, `Tab`, `Control+A`).

Type: `string`

## Keys

| Key | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `press.target` | `target` | The element to focus before pressing the key. Without it, the key goes to whatever has focus. |

Every step also takes the [common step keys](https://docs.kaab.ist/reference/dsl/steps#common-keys): `expect`, `id`, `if`, `name`, `on_error`, `optional`, `retry`, `side_effect`, `timeout_ms`, `x_kaab`.
