# 2026-11-06: API 1.40

Research and search are removed from the API, the SDKs, the CLI and the MCP server.

## Removed

- **api:** **Breaking:** `POST /v1/research`, `GET /v1/research`, `POST /v1/research/estimate`, `GET /v1/research/{id}`, `POST /v1/research/{id}/cancel` and `POST /v1/search` answer `410` with the error code `feature_removed`. They will not come back. They were never generally available, so they were removed without a deprecation period.
- **api:** The `research.succeeded`, `research.failed` and `research.canceled` events, the `research_*` and `search_engines_exhausted` error codes, the `research_id` filter of `GET /v1/jobs` and `group_by=research` on usage are gone.
- **mcp:** The `research`, `get_research` and `search` tools are gone.
- **sdks:** The research and search methods and types are gone from the TypeScript, Python and Go SDKs, and `kaab research` and `kaab search` from the CLI.

## Added

- **api:** The error code `feature_removed` (`410`, not retryable), with `details.docs_url` pointing to this entry.
